About DrivingData UK
Why we built this
The DVSA publishes detailed driving test statistics every quarter, covering pass rates, gender breakdowns, age performance, and more for every test centre in the UK. The problem is that this data is buried in government spreadsheets that most people never find, let alone know how to read.
DrivingData UK exists to change that. We take the raw DVSA data and turn it into something genuinely useful: clear, searchable pages for every active test centre, with 18 years of historical trends, visual charts, and practical advice. Whether you're a learner driver choosing where to take your test, an instructor advising students, or a parent helping your teenager prepare, the data should be easy to find and easy to understand.
Who we are
DrivingData UK is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the DVSA, the DVLA, or any government department. We are not a driving school, and we do not sell driving lessons or test bookings. Our only goal is to make public data more accessible.
If you have questions, suggestions, or spot an error, you can reach us at [email protected].
Data sources
All statistics on this site are sourced from official DVSA publications available on GOV.UK under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We use the following datasets:
DRT122A is our primary dataset, covering car driving test pass rates by gender, month, and test centre. It spans 18 financial years from 2007/08 to 2024/25 and includes data for over 700 centres (of which approximately 293 are currently active).
DRT122D provides pass rate breakdowns by age (17 to 25) at each test centre, allowing us to show how different age groups perform at every centre.
DRT122E covers automatic transmission test pass rates separately, so you can compare automatic and manual test performance at your chosen centre.
INS0103 provides the number of DVSA-approved driving instructors registered in each postcode area across Great Britain.
Methodology
Pass rates are calculated as the number of test passes divided by the number of tests conducted, expressed as a percentage. All annual figures refer to the DVSA financial year, which runs from April to March.
Location data for test centres is derived from centre names and verified using postcodes.io. Area pages show all test centres within a 20-mile radius of each town or city. County groupings are based on the administrative county returned by the geocoding service, with manual corrections applied where the automated result was inaccurate.
Comparison pages are generated for centres within the same county, centres within 15 miles of each other across county borders, and centres with notably contrasting pass rates. Only centres with current-year data (2024/25) are included in active listings and leaderboards.
How often is the data updated?
The DVSA publishes new driving test statistics quarterly, typically two to three months after the end of each quarter. We update our site as soon as new data becomes available. Our automated pipeline downloads the latest DVSA files, re-parses all centre data, and rebuilds the site. You can see the data period covered on each centre page.
